Power Raking & Aerating

Why Should You Power Rake?

Power raking is the process used to remove excess thatch from your lawn. Thatch is a layer of semi-decomposed grass and organic material that accumulates on the soil faster than it can be absorbed.  Some thatch is beneficial to your lawn for root protection (approx. 1/2"). It is when the thatch layer exceeds this depth that problems can arise. Too much thatch will restrict water, air and nutrients from reaching the soil and in turn, the roots will grow in the layer of thatch instead of the soil. Other than not bagging your grass clippings, the most common cause of excess thatch is poor mower mulching performance.

Why Should You Aerate?

Aerating  is the process where cores or plugs of grass are removed from your lawn to alleviate soil compaction. Soil compaction prevents proper circulation or water, air, and nutrients within the soil. Aerating is essential for deep root growth, improves drainage and helps produce a stronger, healthier lawn. The plugs remain on the lawn as they are beneficial organic matter and naturally break down over the next week or so.
